Skin care is very important in every season to keep your skin healthy. Of course, your skin care routine will change according to the seasons but there are some common steps you should follow in every season for healthy mind, body and skin.
-Eat healthy food: A healthy diet is the key. Include food with omega-3 fatty acids in your diet.
-Drinking water: It keeps your body hydrated and helps to remove impurities from body.
-Exercise: Helps to increase your blood flow, improves energy level and immunity, reduce depression.
-Sleep: Check out my Beauty Sleep post for importance of sleep.
-Exfoliate: It removes dead skin and gives healthy glowing skin.
-Moisturize and use sunscreen.
Winter skin care
Winter is hard for skin. Outside cold air and indoors heat can strip oil/moisture from your skin and makes it very dry, flaky and itchy. Our skin needs extra care during this season.
Here I am sharing some tips based on my experience which really helps me to get smooth and healthy glowing Skin –
Body care every day
-Exfoliate – Use hydrating scrub like honey and sugar or olive oil and sugar. You can use this scrub for body, face and lips.
-Use oil based moisturizing body cleanser.
-Avoid long shower and use warm or lukewarm water.
-Apply plenty of thick cream immediately (within 3 minutes for best results) after shower.
Body care every night before bed
-Use oil-based body moisturizer or thick cream with lactic acid which is very effective.
-Use cotton gloves and socks to bed after applying lotion, it helps the moisturizer absorb into the skin.
Face care every day
-Use oil (oilve oil or almond oil) to remove your makeup.
-Use oil-based mild cleanser.
-Use toner with no alcohol.
-Use deeply hydrating mask.
-Use oil-based moisturizer.
-Use extra hydrating lip balm.
-Use humidifier, it adds extra moisture into the air.
-Always keep lip balm, oil-based moisturizer handy (in bathroom, near to bed, in bag etc.). Apply it as needed.
-Use alcohol-free hand sanitizers.
-Use rubber gloves for washing dishes and cleaning your home, this will help to protect your hands.
-Bundle up before going out. Always wear gloves, scarf, hat and wool mix socks.
Some products and oils I use –
Vaseline – For seriously damaged skin. It is old-school but it works every time.
Aquaphor – Hands down! It is very effective healing ointment for dry and cracked skin. I use it as moisturizer and lip balm.
Olive oil – I use it to remove my makeup.
Mustard oil – My ultimate secret 🙂 Thanks to my mom!
This oil is really good for your health, skin and hair. Here are some skin benefits –

-It acts as anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. Helps to treat rashes and any skin infection. It reduce skin inflammation.
-It acts as natural sunscreen.
-It also acts as rich moisturizer – It prevents skin from dryness and itching.
-It has anti aging properties.
How I use it –
I have very oily skin (face and body), since this oil is very thick and moisturizing, I use it once a week before bed (on weekends as it has a strong deep scent).
Before massage I exfoliate my skin using “dry brushing” method. This is another way of exfoliating your skin, by running a soft bristle dry brush over your bare skin. It helps to remove dead skin cells and allows oil to penetrate deep into the skin.
I pour the oil in my hands and rub it together to warm the oil. Then I apply it all over the skin and slowly start massaging for 20-30 mins. Once I am done, I wear old PJs, cotton socks and gloves. It really helps to rejuvenate and cleanse the skin. Also helps to increase the blood circulation and detox the impurities. In the morning I take bath with lukewarm water and use oil based moisturizing body cleanser.
This massage helps to removes all dryness and gives me silky, healthy, hydrated glowing Skin. 🙂
